Case studies
Some examples of companies we have worked for that have required special systems or adaptions in order to achieve a desired effect.
Queen Mary 2
Queen Mary 2
We were very pleased to be asked to fit out the art gallery on Cunard's new Queen Mary 2 cruise ship. The requirement was for something strong, easy to use and in keeping with the classic décor of the ship. With the ship being so tall, and the gallery subject to a lot of sideways movement, the hangers would need to be secure top and bottom. The Boyer Brass system (BOB) was chosen. We then designed a modification of the security kit to keep the hanger against the rail at the bottom. Combined with Boyer security hooks (HS) and D-rings the pictures could be hung flat against the hangers, which in turn are held back against the wall, thus preventing damage or theft.
QE2
Due to the success of the unique system designed by us, based on the classic Boyer, that was installed on the Queen Mary 2, the QE2 has now been fitted with the same, this time in a silver finish.
Dundalk Town Hall
The Basement Gallery is part of the recent refurbishment to Dundalk Town Hall. But being old and underground, (originally the town¹s prison), the walls are rock hard and very uneven, not ideal for presenting art. We were asked to install our unique Avanti floor to ceiling system, with suspended stainless steel cable, originally designed for window displays, to overcome the problem of a continuous brick protrusion at eye level and the general Œlumpiness¹ of the wall. The result was another successful overseas installation having provided the complete and affordable solution to the client¹s unusual problem.
Cyfarthfa Castle, Wales, UK
We are now onto our third installation at Cyfarthfa Castle in South Wales. They have chosen the Boyer Brass range that suits the 19th Century mansion very well. It will also save them having to bang holes through their expensive wallpaper!
Heathrow Airport T1
Our Avanti ceiling mounted system was specified by the architects in the new British Airways Iceberg arrivals and departure lounges at Heathrow's Terminal 1. A 25mm recess was built in to the ceiling edge to hide the rail (AVRW) and the top fix hangers (TN15W and TS15W). All that was visible was the crystal clear nylon, or the stainless steel cable, appearing as if by magic from the shadow of the recess and disappearing behind the picture on to which was attached one of a selection of suitable hooks.
Shell Tower, London, UK
Shell International called us to supply and install a hanging system in their War Memorial Hall. Previously they had opted for the Locator system in other areas of the building and it was decided that Locator had the right minimalist qualities, being both discreet and flexible. They now have an excellent space for displaying artworks and when they¹re not exhibiting, the Locator rail is almost invisible.
Horsham District Council
The Avanti system was specified for displaying art in the new Arts Centre in Horsham, a sympathetic yet very modern conversion of a beautiful old theatre. They wanted something special so we designed an inverted cantilever hanger to suspend tightly the stainless steel cable from regular cantilever hangers in the top rail to a rail fitted on the wall just above the skirting. By using HP hooks, they were able to add and remove pictures easily each time, the basic security offered by an HP meant the public couldn't!
